The Seal River Watershed Indigenous Protected Area
“If we protect [the Seal River Watershed], we would be helping to fight climate change. We would be helping Canada protect 25% of lands and waters by 2025.” As the last undeveloped watershed in Manitoba, Stephanie Thorassie sees the same Seal River as her ancestors that came before her – a place where culture and language thrives, where belugas are born, and where caribou rest along their vast migration routes. Thatʻs why she and the Seal River Watershed Initiative are working to designate the watershed as an Indigenous Protected Area. Watch to learn how this initiative will benefit Manitoba & the world.
